<p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0">My top choice would be Watson and McKernie's Cultural History of Theatre but it is also out of print (I have not assigned it in a course; just for my own lectures).</p>

<p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0">Here's one that came across my desk a few years ago though I have not ordered it for a class: The <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Enjoyment of Theatre, 9th Edition, </span><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Patterson & Donahue.
It's not as comprehensive as Brockett but has the period you need in Part III. Has anyone else taught with it?</span></p>

-- you probably know it -- </span>about 60 pages for your period so it's definitely not the Brockett but well written and there is more period info when introducing playwrights.</p>
