<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">The questions on transgender identity and identity politics emerge in distinct fields of knowledge, especially in the humanities, letters and arts. Included here is the debate
surrounding the term itself, as it is, in a way, a field of political disputes.

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">Performing artists, mediators, etc. operate within the scope of the transgender issues. The contemporary stage and the performing arts have seen an increase in participation
of trans artists and/or works that feature non-binary identities, queer movements, and intersexuality, among so many other possibilities that unsettle the epistemological limits known thus far.

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">These new performance practices must take center stage. It is both about new social practices and new possibilities of thinking and rethinking the relations we establish with
our bodies and the bodies of the Other.

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">Such practices impose new forms of questioning on the research field, new possibilities for research and new epistemological problems. It is not only a matter of studying performances
of a certain “type.” From the epistemological point of view, the word transgender applies to a range of elements that, while resisting the common definitions, broaden the possibilities of thinking and acting in the world.

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">From the theoretical point of view, it is not only a matter of thinking about performances of people who do not identify with their socially imposed gender, who live outside
of dichotomies, who have transitioned, or who live and perform non-binary genders. More than that, it is a matter of thinking how theses everyday performances impose an epistemological rearrangement of the very idea of performance.

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">Performativity is in the core of this discussion, as well as the debate on resistance to the normative and, more specifically, heteronormative standards. In fact, this set of
elements of gender performance and/or performativity imposes multiple approaches to performance research and practice.

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">What do trans people bring as markers to the performance? How do trans performances expand what we know concerning art, politics, resistance, and performativity? The field of
relationships between transgender identity and performance is multiple and those are only some of the questions.

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">

asked to send a translation in English. The journal will provide the translation to Portuguese of those papers sent in English or French whose authors are native in these languages. Additional information can be found in our website, www.seer.ufrgs.br/presenca;

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">

<span style="font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black">
