As quantum biology continues to evolve, it is increasingly possible to explore the underlying mechanisms of biological systems at the subatomic level. This perspective is being applied to the brain, where understanding neuron function beyond traditional chemical
and electrical signaling pathways may open the door to new diagnostics and treatments for neurological conditions and mental health issues, potentially revolutionizing our grasp of cognition, behavior, and even consciousness itself. Numerous theories suggest
that quantum mechanics could play an important role in brain function, yet without experimental validation, these remain speculative. Here we will examine current theoretical quantum models (such as spin-based and optical mechanisms) that have been proposed
to affect brain activity and assess them against existing experimental data. Although there is evidence supporting the possibility of quantum processes in the brain, considerable challenges persist in explaining how these processes operate within the relevant
biological scales of time and space. We also explore potential methods to overcome these challenges.</div>
