deeply regret to inform you that <strong><u><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre will be closing its doors permanently on March 31, 2017</span></u></strong>. After an extensive process of exploring options for the future, the Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cease the operations of HopeSpring. We will continue all scheduled programs and services until February 28, 2017, including our wig and camisole fittings, our lending library, and relaxation appointments.<br> <br><em><b><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Why is HopeSpring closing?</span></b></em><br> <br>Since its beginning, HopeSpring has been 100% reliant on community donations to sustain it. HopeSpring has never charged for any of its services, nor has it received any government funding. However, in recent years, HopeSpring has found it increasingly difficult to compete for private sector donations to make ends meet. While it has achieved broad-based annual support from foundation grants, special events and direct mail appeals, the spectrum of services historically provided free of charge can not be maintained based on current levels of financial support.<br> <br><em><b><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>What happened to the planned transition to Wellspring Grand River?</span></b></em><br> <br>In October 2016, HopeSpring and Wellspring met to re-evaluate the benefits and costs of creating Wellspring Grand River. Based on their mutual findings, the organizations agreed that it was not viable to bring the two centres together.<br> <br><em><b><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>I’m a donor to HopeSpring? What happens to gifts I’ve made?</span></b></em><br> <br>HopeSpring could not have existed for so long without your support, and for this we are truly grateful. Donors to HopeSpring should be proud of what their gifts have enabled us to accomplish during the last 21 years.<br> <br>Donations to HopeSpring will continue to support our various programs and services for those facing cancer up to February 28<sup>th</sup>, 2017.<br> <br>In accordance with our letters patent, any money remaining following our closure will be given to a local charity, to support needed programs and services within the community.<br> <br><em><b><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>How will the closure of HopeSpring affect members? </span></b></em><br> <br>We are deeply saddened that we will no longer be able to provide the care and psychosocial support that members have received, and that members will soon be facing their cancer journey without HopeSpring. <br> <br>HopeSpring is committed to helping its members find other helpful services to support them. Those who have purchased a brick are welcome to continue to visit the garden and enjoy its quiet environment. <br> <br><em><b><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>The not-for-profit landscape is changing</span></b></em><br> <br>The focus, mandates and missions for many agencies within the healthcare system, as for the not-for-profit sector in general, are changing.
