[Anthsoc] Silver Medal and Sally Weaver Awards

Here is a copy of the invitation for the Silver Medal and Sally Weaver 
Awards handed out in some classrooms:

Dear Student:

Fall is here and it is time for the annual Anthropology celebration and 
presentation of the Silver Medal and Sal Weaver Awards. The lecture this 
year will be on Friday, October 28^t h at 4:00 p.m. in AL 105.

It gives the department great pleasure to have invited Dr. Marcel Danesi 
from the University of Toronto to give this year's lecture, which is 
titled "The X-Factor: The Unconscious Power of Pictograph in Pop 
Culture". Dr. Danesi is a noted researcher in the Department of 
Anthropology at the University of Toronto. He is a linguist, musician, 
anthropologist and semiotician with a long history of publications 
concerning popular culture and communications.

The lecture will be followed by a reception at 5:15 in PAS 3005 and 
dinner at Dr. Harriet Lyons's house for those who wish to attend. All 
alumni and friends are welcome to the lecture and reception at which the 
awards are made. However, in order for us to plan, could you please RSVP 
to the department phone at (519) 888-4567, ext. 2520, or e-mail 
_jmac at .uwaterloo.ca. _The Anthropology secretary is Jacqueline Macpherson.

If you wish to attend the dinner, please tell us when you RSVP and 
remember that a $5.00 contribution to defray costs is customary. Please 
get back to us before October 20th so that we can finalize plans.
