Fall is here and it is time for the annual Anthropology celebration and
presentation of the Silver Medal and Sal Weaver Awards. The lecture this
year will be on Tuesday, October 28th at 4:00 p.m. in the Tatham Centre,
Room 2218 A&B.
Our guest speaker this year is Dr. Mathias Guenther, Professor Emeritus at
Wilfrid Laurier University and his lecture is entitled "The Foraging Mode of
Thought" of the San and Other Egalitarian Hunter-Gatherers. Dr. Guenther is
an expert on foraging societies and folklore. He is the author of
Tricksters and Trancers: Bushman Religion and Society, published by the
University of Indiana Press, among many other publications.
The lecture will be followed by a reception at 5:15 p.m. in PAS 3005. In
order for us to plan catering, etc., could you please RSVP to Allyson Rowat,
the Department secretary, by e-mail at arowat at uwaterloo.ca. or telephone at
(519) 888-4567, ext. 32520.
3rd and 4th year ANTH majors are also invited to a celebration dinner at the
home of Prof. Harriet Lyons, beginning at 7 p.m. If you wish to attend the
dinner, please tell us when you RSVP and remember that a $10.00 contribution
to defray costs is customary (to be handed in to me in PAS 2012 during
office hours). Please get back to us by October 15th so that we can
finalize plans.
Hope to see you all there.
