Hello Anthropology students,
As you may have heard, there are drastic changes coming in the registration
and scheduling process, and they start now. Pre-enrolment and enrolment
appointments will soon no longer exist. The current course registration and
classroom assignment process is giving way to a new software package that
is student schedule driven. ****
****
Why does this matter to you?
Enrolment appointments will no longer be part of your registration process.
You will not receive specific days during which you can enrol. Therefore,
please, please, please, during course selection week, register for the
classes you need and want - whether you are in first or fourth year. Course
selection week is February 25 - March 3rd for Fall 2013. You must select
your courss before the timetable can be created.
What happens if you do not do nor participate in pre-registration, because
you are sure those anthropology courses will have room for you to register
later, or you want to wait to see what time they are offered?
Here are some of the consequences of the failure of any or all of you to
pre-register:****
1. You *will not* be able to enrol for any courses until July 29, the week
everyone on campus can enrol, add, or drop. ****
****
2. You might not get the courses you need, because course limits and
classroom size will be assigned according to the number of students who
pre-enrolled. Once the rooms are set, we can't change them to accommodate
more demand. ****
3. Your schedule might be terrible. The software the Registrar's will be
using is student-demand driven. If our students do not enrol, our classes
will be pushed to the periphery of times and places, and we might be
looking at schedules that put a greater number of classes than usual at
8:30 or 3:30, and in places that are farther and farther from PAS. In a
trial run based on last-year's pre-enrollment, almost every single course
in Anthropology was scheduled at 8:30 or 9:30, or after 4:30. ****
****
4. All of the courses you need may be scheduled at the same time. If you
don't indicate that you actually need to take several anthropology courses,
the computer will schedule them all at the same time, because there is no
evidence that anybody needs more than one of them. We have absolutely no
control or input on this, and can't change it once the computer schedules
the classes.
Please, please, please register during course selection week. You can
always alter your schedule after July 29 if you change your mind about your
schedule. Your faculty and your fellow students thank you!****
