Call for volunteers to participate in a Bronze Age cemetery excavation
in eastern Hungary
The Bronze Age Körös Off-Tell Archaeology (BAKOTA) project seeks
highly motivated, energetic, and experienced archaeology student
volunteers to join an international, multidisciplinary, research team
studying a Bronze Age cemetery on the Great Hungarian Plain (dating to
between 2100 and 1400 CalBC). Duties will include excavation, record
keeping, and laboratory analysis. We seek participants who will do
well in a co-educational collaborative group research project, who are
enthusiastic about our program, and are willing to commit to the
physical and mental demands of the international research experience.
Applicants with prior archaeological field experience (e.g., field
schools or field training) are preferred.
How to apply: Eligible applicants must provide a self-evaluation that
includes information about:
1) your academic standing; 2) the upper-level anthropology and
archaeology courses you have taken; 3) your field training; 5) an
explanation of how your courses and field work have prepared you for
international, multidisciplinary, collaborative, research, 6) outlines
your career goals after college and/or graduate school, and 7) tells
us why you would like to participate on this project. Also suggest two
persons who would be able to comment on your academic and personal
qualifications for collaborative international research. Email this
application, or any questions, to Paul Duffy (paul.duffy at utoronto.ca).
Review of applications will begin Friday, February 21 and continue
until the positions are filled.
Financial Support: Limited funding is available to cover airfares.
Food and lodging will be provided for participants during fieldwork in
Hungary. Emergency travel insurance must be provided by student
volunteers.
Eligibility: Students of any citizenship may apply. Volunteers must be
currently enrolled at the University of Toronto.
Academic Credit:
No academic credit or tuition.
