Dear Faculty and Staff of the Faculty of Arts:

>From April 30th to May 4th, 2008, the University of Waterloo and Princess
Cinema will be playing host to a noteworthy film conference and festival.
The conference, Cinema and Social Change in Germany and Austria, will be
bringing together film scholars from Canada, the United States, and Europe
to discuss current trends in German-language cinema. In conjunction with the
conference, KinoFest, a festival of new films from Germany and Austria, will
be held at the same time at Princess Cinema.

You are cordially invited to attend both events. Two websites have all the
details:
www.wcgs.ca/filmconference tells you about the conference;
www.kinofest.ca has information on the films being shown and the incredible
deals you can get on tickets (5 admissions for $25 - wow!).

If you have a few spare moments during this last week of classes and notice
that your students have sipped all they can from the cup of knowledge you’ve
offered them, perhaps telling them about KinoFest and pointing them towards
the website will be the kind of refreshing change in routine they’ve been
thirsting for.

Conferences and film festivals such as these require strong financial
support, and our Faculty of Arts has come through big time. Thanks go to the
Dean of Arts, the Waterloo Centre for German Studies, the departments of
Germanic and Slavic Studies, Drama and Speech Communications, History, and
Sociology, the Associate Vice-President Academic/International and the
Vice-President Research for the generous donations of cash and logistical
support. A tip of the hat also goes to our major academic and institutional
sponsors: SSHRC, the German Academic Exchange Service, the Goethe-Institut
in Toronto, the German and Austrian governments, York University's Canadian
Centre for German and European Studies, the Kitchener-Waterloo Community
Foundation, and the Musagetes Fund.

Thanks for your time. I hope to see you at the movies!
