Social Innovation Generation presents C.S. (Buzz) Holling - Feb 21, 2008

Inventing Organizations: Rhythms of Novelty, Rejection and Acceptance
C.S. Holling
Festival Room, South Campus Hall
5:30pm to 7pm.

C.S. (Buzz) Holling, founder of the internationally recognized Resilience
Alliance, is one of the most influential ecologists of the last century. His
publications on the resilience of ecological systems has had a substantial
impact within ecology and other natural and social sciences. In his talk,
Holling broadens the notion of resilience to discuss the changing character
of organizations with which he has been associated; each caught in an
adaptive cycle of change where novelty of work played against the
conservative nature of scientific and social paradigms.

Holling has a lifetime of experience with organizations from around the
world, including, the Canadian Department of Forestry, UBC's Institute of
Resource Ecology, IIASA, the Santa Fe Institute, the Canadian Institute of
Advanced Research and the Beijer Institute in Sweden.
