Last Noon Hour Concert for the term

Hi, All.

 

Our very own Studio Instructor Linda Melsted (Baroque violin) and Terry
McKenna (lute and theorbo) will perform a Noon Hour Concert this Wednesday,
March 26 at 12:30 in the Conrad Grebel University College Chapel.  The
program is entitled “Divisions on a Ground” (see program information below).
Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend.  

 

We are hosting 50 grade 10 guitar students and grade 11/12 instrumental
students from Resurrection Catholic Secondary School for the performance as
well, so come early to get a good seat!

About the Artists

 

Linda Melsted's warm, soulful tone, her musical integrity, and the brave
passion of her artistry have won the hearts of audiences across North
America, Europe and Japan, where she has performed as a soloist, chamber
musician, member and leader of such outstanding ensembles as Tafelmusik, the
Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Seattle Baroque
Orchestra, Concerto Köln, and the New York Baroque Ensemble. She is the
featured soloist in Tafelmusik's TV documentary, DVD and CD Le Mozart Noir. 

A native of Seattle, Linda has lived in Canada since 1992; since the end of
2004 she has made her home in Kitchener, where she leads the baroque
ensemble Nota Bene, and has been guest leader and soloist with the
Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.  She also teaches violin at the University of
Waterloo, and directs the Baroque Ensemble at Wilfrid Laurier University's
Faculty of Music.

Terry McKenna enjoys performing a wide range of musical styles on period and
modern guitars and lutes. A member of the Toronto Consort and the Toronto
Masque Theatre, he guests with I Furiosi, Musica Franca and Opera Atelier,
among others. 

In addition to historical-based repertoire Terry welcomes opportunities to
perform contemporary scores by composers such as James Rolfe, Omar Daniel,
Peter Hannan, John Beckwith and Harry Freedman. 

Terry's many recordings include his own feature project: Throw the House Out
of the Windowe (and Other Damn Fine Dance Tunes) on the Marquis Classics
label. 

Terry teaches guitar and lute at Wilfrid Laurier University. He also enjoys
composing and performing music for the Playmakers! youth theatre project
(www.play.makers.ca <http://www.play.makers.ca/> ).  He lives in Stratford,
Ontario where he performs with the Stratford Festival Orchestra.
