Two events of interest: Goethe's "Faust" and a "Lessingfest".
The Waterloo Centre for German Studies is co-producing with Shadow
Puppet Theatre of Kitchener and the WLU Laurier Players Goethe's
"Faust", Part 1, Oct 24 (8 pm) and 25 (2 pm) in the Humanities Theatre,
HH 180. Seating is limited and tickets are available at $12 regular and
$8 students/youth. The Oct. 25 matinée is timed especially for families.
As a hybrid German-English show, yet maintaining the level and quality
of the original text of 1808 and delivered by a combination of shadow
puppets and live actors, this production of a classic work offers a
singular opportunity for theatre-goers from child to adult. After the
Saturday matinée, all are welcome to inspect the puppetry magic
backstage. Seating is limited, so buy now.
On November 7, the Centre has organized a "Lessingfest". The great
German enlightenment figure, Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1729-81), will be
celebrated through a live performance of his attack on authoritarian
abuse "Emilia Galotti" at the Avon Theatre in Stratford, in German with
English subtitles. It will be performed by the cast of the Deutsches
Theater Berlin. A lecture and discussion, with lunch and supper, will
bracket the show. Favourably reduced tickets are available, but are
limited and in short supply. See the attachments on "Faust" and the
"Lessingfest" to get yours.
