The 18th June 1940: A Gaullist Memory?
Born in 1960, Olivier Wieviorka studied at Ecole Normale Supérieure de
Saint-Cloud. Agrégé, at Paris I Sorbonne (Phd) and Institut dEtudes
Politiques de Paris (habilitation à diriger les recherches).
He is presently full professor of contemporary history at Ecole Normale
Supérieure de Cachan with research interests in World War II. His major
publications include /Une Certaine idée de la Résistance: Défense de la
France (1940-1949)/, Le Seuil, 1995, /Les Orphelins de la République.
Itinéraire des députés et sénateurs français (1940-1945/) Le Seuil, 2001
(translated by Harvard University Press, Orphans of the Republic, 2009)
and , /Nous entrerons dans la carrière. De la Résistance à lexercice du
pouvoir/, Le Seuil, 1994.
His talk will explore the contentious memory of France under German
occupation in World War II.
