Dr. Helmes-Hayes' research examines the history of sociology, especially
Canadian sociology. He has published widely on many of the pioneers of the
discipline including S.D. Clark, John Porter and Everett

Hughes. His most recent publications include a co-edited special edition of
the /Canadian Journal of Sociology/ on "Public Sociology" (October 2009), a
comprehensive intellectual biography of John Porter,

/Measuring the Mosaic/, just released (April 2010) by the University of
Toronto Press (580 pp), and a co-edited special issue of the Italian
sociology journal /Sociologica/ (October 2010) dealing with Everett

Hughes.
