Black Theatre course offered in winter term

The Drama and Speech Communication Department is pleased to announce that
this winter it will be offering DRAMA 491: Black Theatre, a new upper level
(3A and up) course.  If possible, please forward the course description
below to students who you think may be interested.

 

DRAMA 491-001: Black Theatre 

Instructor: Dr. Naila Keleta-Mae

Monday and Wednesday 11:00-12:20

AL 209

 

Through the examination of plays, this course will use critical race,
feminist and performance theory to explores English language-based black
theatre in the 20th and 21st centuries. The plays studied will be better
understood through the analysis of the primary historical, political and
cultural contexts that most informed their productions and their playwright.
Experience as a theatre practitioner is not required, however students will
be expected to thoughtfully engage with the course content through class
participation, presentations, research, writing and a final exam.
Permission from the instructor is required for non-drama majors.  Please
