With pre-registration for undergraduate classes coming up soon, we want to
remind you (and the students you advise) of the new undergraduate minor in
“Visual Culture in a Global Context.”

The global reach of media industries today challenge us to comprehend how
the visual arts—whether screen, performance, painting, design, and
architecture—have formed and are changing world cultures and societies.
This interdisciplinary program, relying on the resources and strengths of
various UW departments, investigates the history and theory of spatial
media and the performance of images, recognizing the rapidly growing
international contexts and vastly diverse cultures of spectatorship.

One of the core courses of the VCULT Minor, VCULT 100 is being offered
Winter 2012.

“World Cinema and Visual Culture” offers an introduction to film analysis
via national cinemas of the last 10 years, taking into account their
worldwide reception and the role of new technologies. This class
acknowledges not only the importance of multiple languages and cultures on
the planet today but also the rapidly growing international contexts,
complicated chains of production and distribution, and vastly different
cultures of spectatorship.

VCULT 100 fulfills the Fine, Performing and Communications Arts Breadth
Requirement.

Screenings: Tuesdays 5-7:20. Class: Thursdays 5-7:20.

THANKS for spreading the word to your students!
