Dear faculty and staff:
Please consider this your cordial invitation to attend tomorrow night's East-West concert. Details are provided below:
Singing: East and West
Wednesday, June 13 7:30 pm
Renison University College, garden
Performers include: Pam Patel and the Dark Horse Ensemble, Waterloo Chinese Philharmonic Choir, University of Waterloo Concert Choir and Marhee Clifton & Rachel Pines, soprano.
Gerard describes the concert as follows:
"Singing is one of the most distinguishing and universal of human activities found in virtually every culture across the globe. In tonight's concert we explore both solo and choral singing from Eastern and Western traditions and perspectives. You will hear traditional songs from China, Korea, and India as well as beloved Western songs by Gustav Mahler and W.A. Mozart. The Waterloo Chinese Philharmonic Choir under the direction of Jing Sing Yu, performs traditional Chinese works as well as some of the finest works from the Western repertoire. Pam Patel brings her considerable vocal and creative talents to bear in a new piece inspired by her recent visit to India. This piece represents East-West's first venture into the rich musical cultures of India. Accompanied by East-West's Dark Horse Ensemble, Pam takes us on a musical journey through the streets of urban India, into the classical roots of Indian music, and lends us a brief glimpse into Bollywood, perhaps one of the most notable East-West art forms of our times.
