“Why we should care about the widening gap between rich and poor: Inequality and democratic attitudes in cross-national perspective”

Presented by:  Robert Andersen, University of Toronto

Robert Andersen is a Professor of Sociology and Political Science (Distinguished Professor of Social Science starting in July 2013) and Chair of the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto. His current research explores the interaction between national-level economic conditions and individual-level economic position—as measured by social class or income—in their effects on various outcomes considered important to democracy, such as tolerance, support for social and political freedoms, and civic participation. The author of more than 50 research articles, his work has appeared in the Annual Review of Sociology, American Journal of Political Science, American Sociological Review, Public Opinion Quarterly, and Sociological Methodology.
