Islam at the Foundations of Western Society: How Medieval Islam Shaped the Modern World

Professor Steven Bednarski,

St. Jerome's University

A social historian of medieval crime and gender, Bednarski works on criminal records from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries to see how ordinary people lived, laughed, loved, and loathed. His first book, entitled Curia: A Social History of a Provencal Criminal Court in the Fourteenth Century tells tales of naughty townsmen and nasty knights.
