Dear Colleagues,

This weekend, hot on the heels of a hugely successful double conference hosted by the Department of English, you are invited to attend another exciting coupling. This time, the focus is on making, hacking, and staying up late.

Event 1: SoOnCon: The Southern Ontario Makers and Hackers Conference
This is an informal conference with workshops, demonstrations, talks, and meet-and-greets designed to celebrate making and hacking, from knitting and sewing to Tomagatchi repurposing and sensor-based jewellery fabrication. Critical Media Lab will be offering two hands-on workshops, plus a talk entitled "Critical Media: Broken Tools and Misfit Toys." We are especially interested in registrants for the "Shifty Eyes" workshop. Visit the conference web site for details.
Location: THEMUSEUM in Downtown Kitchener.
Time: 9am - 5pm, Saturday, November 2
Information and Registration: http://sooncon.ca

Event 2: Night\Shift
This is Kitchener's first stab at a Nuit Blanche -- a latenight exploration of art in public spaces. Events include everything from experimental dance performances by our own colleage Sarah Tolmie, to an Arts Market, live bands, interactive art installations, and video screenings. The Critical Media Lab will occupy its former location at the PUC building (195 King Street), and send volunteers into the streets with lifelogging cameras to capture the event from multiple angles.
Location: Various locations in Downtown Kitchener
Time: 9pm - 3am
Information: http://nightshift.alternativesjournal.ca/

For additional details, or to volunteer for "Shifty Eyes," please send a message to marcel at uwaterloo.ca .
