Dear Colleagues,

As part of the Department of French Studies' lecture Series, you are invited to our next presentation by Joseph Acquisto<http://www.uvm.edu/~romlang/?Page=JosephAcquisto.php>, Professor of French, at the University of Vermont.

The title of this presentation will be « Peut-on illuminer un ciel bourbeux et noir? » : La chute et le refus du salut chez Baudelaire et Benjamin Fondane

Associate Professor of French at the University of Vermont, Joseph Acquisto specialises in nineteenth-and twentieth-century literature, especially poetry and the novel, with particular interest in the relations among literature, music, and philosophy. He is the author of French Symbolist Poetry and the Idea of Music (Ashgate, 2006), of the forthcoming Crusoes and Other Castaways in Modern French Literature: Solitary Adventures (University of Delaware Press), and of articles on Baudelaire, Mallarmé, Proust, and Cioran. He has just finished work on an edited volume provisionally entitled Thinking Poetry: Philosophical Approaches to Nineteenth-Century French Poetry (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013). He is currently working on a study of antimodernism, pessimism, and the rethinking of the ethics, metaphysics, and esthetics of salvation in Baudelaire and Cioran.

This event will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 2:30pm in TC 2218A.
Presentation will be in French, questions can be asked in English.
