An exploration on how the religious right in the subcontinent have always had a hold on street level populism and fostered a narrative of being the choice of "strength" during times of socioeconomic and political crisis. An examination of the latest rise of right-wing groups in India, juxtaposed against other movements of a similar ilk in the rest of the subcontinent.
