Steven Loft
Curator, writer and media artist, Steven Loft is a Mohawk of the Six Nations with Jewish heritage.

The University of Waterloo Department of Fine Arts is proud to present their Visiting Artist Lecture Series featuring a talk by internationally recognized curator, scholar, writer and media artist Steven Loft. Loft is a Mohawk of the Six Nations with Jewish heritage. He recently accepted an appointment with the Canada Council as the Coordinator of Aboriginal Arts Office. In 2010, he was named Trudeau National Visiting Fellow at Ryerson University in Toronto, where he is continuing his research on Indigenous art and aesthetics. Loft has held positions as Curator-In-Residence, Indigenous Art at the National Gallery of Canada; Director/Curator of the Urban Shaman Gallery, Winnipeg; Aboriginal Curator at the Art Gallery of Hamilton and Producer and Artistic Director of the Native Indian/Inuit Photographers’ Association. Loft co-edited Transference, Technology, Tradition: Aboriginal Media and New Media Art and is the editor of the forthcoming Coded Territories: Indigenous Pathways in New Media. This talk compliments the course First Nations’ Visual Culture and is presented as an open public lecture.
