Science and Values in Peirce and Dewey: A Conference in Honour of Angus Kerr-Lawson

The conference will be held April 25-27, 2016 in J. G. Hagey Hall (HH), Room 1106.

It will open the evening of April 25th  at 7:00 pm with a public address and keynote by Dr. Catherine Legg<http://www.waikato.ac.nz/fass/about/staff/clegg>, Senior Lecturer at Waikato University (New Zealand) entitled "Scientific Integrity: A Pragmatist Examination of Theory and Practice in the Ethics of Inquiry." During the conference, scholars will offer individual papers and panel/roundtable discussions devoted to both the role of and relationship between science and values in Peirce and Dewey, and to the ways in which contemporary scholarship on science and values draws, or ought to draw, on the work of these classic American pragmatists. Topics will range from the role of values in the natural and social sciences to pragmatic approaches to contemporary science policy.

The conference rounds off April 27th   at 4:30 pm with a closing plenary address on "The Interplay of Evidence and Values in Science" by Dr. Heather Douglas<https://uwaterloo.ca/philosophy/people-profiles/heather-douglas>, Waterloo Chair in Science and Society, University of Waterloo (no RSVP is required for the closing address).
