The Waterloo Centre for German Studies is pleased to announce its first talk of the 2017-2018 academic year. Professor Marcus Funck, research associate and Graduate Program Director at the Centre for Research on Antisemitism at the Technical University of Berlin, will be talking on “Antisemitism in Germany’s ‘New Right:’ A History of the Present,” a timely topic in light of Germany’s upcoming election.

His talk will deal with the rise of a right-wing populist movement and the political successes of the party Alternative for Deutschland, the inherent antisemitism of the party’s völkisch thought, the party’s ambivalent relation to Germany's National Socialist past, and the "New Right's" rejection of the established memorial culture of the Holocaust.

The talk will take place Thursday, September 14 at 3 pm in Modern Languages 245
