The University of Waterloo's Global Engagement Seminar Program<https://uwaterloo.ca/global-engagement-program/> would like to invite you to the Global Populism and Democratic Futures Summit on the evening of March 28 and throughout the day and into the event on March 29 at the Balsillie School of International Affairs.

The aim of the Summit is to showcase the Global Engagement Seminar Program's students<https://uwaterloo.ca/global-engagement-program/people-profiles> and their projects and to engage the broader Waterloo community in important conversations about the global rise of populist movements and the effects of populism on feminism, science, belonging, civic engagement and democracy.

The Global Engagement Program brings together a select group of students from across the six university faculties in order to engage with pressing global issues. The program Director, Dr. Jasmin Habib<https://www.balsillieschool.ca/jasmin-habib/>, and this year's Jarislowky Fellow, Dr. Henry Giroux<http://www.henryagiroux.com/>, are encouraging students to think critically about the global challenges posed by populism and the implications for different communities' futures.

Along with keynote presentations by Henry Giroux (from 11:30 to 1:00 on March 29), Kurt Huebner and Ann Komarom (on the evening of March 28), our students will be presenting their exhibits and delivering their presentations on such topics as Social Media and Civic Engagement, the rise of and response to Anti-Science Movements, Cultural Belonging in the Wake of Populism, and Mainstreaming and Populist Feminisms. These projects aim to contribute towards the development of meaningful responses and solutions to these timely global issues.

We hope that you will be able to join the conversation and attend the Summit as we invite you to share your insights. Senator Landon Pearson, Mr. John Stackhouse and a representative from the Jarislowsky Foundation have confirmed their attendance at the Summit.
