December 6th, 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the murders of fourteen women at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal. In her Governor General's award winning play, The December Man/l'homme de decembre,, Colleen Murphy attempts to take this tragic, public event as a point of departure.
The roots of personal devastation are sowed in a public tragedy as an ordinary family is thrown into crisis by a terrible act of public violence that their son escaped... or thought he did. Moving backwards in time to explore the aftermath of the 1989 Montreal Massacre, Jean’s parents, Benoît and Kathleen, try to help their only son cope with the unthinkable.
The December Man features three characters who appear on stage:
Jean Emile Fournier (22 M): An engineering student in Montreal. He is the only son of Kathleen and Benoît.
Kathleen (Kate) Fournier (62 F): Fiercely devoted to her only child, who she had later in life. She cleans houses.
Benoît Fournier (59 M): Jean’s father. A factory worker.
We are also looking for three additional voice actors (18–70 M) to provide voice-overs. These actors will be asked to speak French with a Quebecois accent.
Booking your audition slot in advance ensures you get a time that works best with your schedule, but walk-ins are always welcome.
