2021 Digital Pedagogy Institute

Call for Proposals – Extended to May 7th,

We are excited to issue this Call for Proposals for the 7th annual Digital Pedagogy Institute (DPI)<https://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/conferences/digital-pedagogy-institute/>. Co-organized by the University of Toronto Scarborough Library, alongside our partners Brock University, Ryerson University Library and Ryerson’s Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, the University of Waterloo, and UTSC’s Centre for Teaching and Learning, the DPI will be taking place virtually on August 10th and 11th, 2021. Although this decision was made in light of pandemic restrictions, we hope it will also serve to make the conference accessible to a greater number of participants and allow us to host presentations from a wider range of institutions across North America and the globe.

Themes and Streams
At this year’s Digital Pedagogy Institute (DPI), our goal is to create a virtual space that allows participants to explore diverse approaches to digital pedagogy from a variety of perspectives, including those of students, faculty, librarians, educational developers, and technologists. The DPI serves as a meaningful professional development opportunity to learn more about the innovative use of digital technologies for the enhancement and transformation of undergraduate and graduate teaching.

Themes:
While broadly focused on Digital Pedagogy, the conference themes include:

  * digital pedagogy best practices across all disciplines
  *   digital pedagogy collaborations between faculty, educational developers and technologists, librarians, and/or graduate/undergraduate students;
  *   digital pedagogy collaborations with organizations outside the academy;
  *   the state of digital pedagogy education in higher education;
  *   digital pedagogy case studies, including course and assignment innovations;
  * innovative new uses for traditional digital pedagogy tools.

Streams:
DPI2021 will include four streams:

  1. Digital Pedagogy during the Pandemic: How have you used digital pedagogies/technologies to respond to higher education disruptions and changes to course delivery strategies during the pandemic?
  2. Anti-racist and Decolonized Approaches to Digital Pedagogy: How have digital pedagogy techniques and tools helped you to address anti-racist and decolonization practices in your teaching? What are the challenges and opportunities? What best practices would you like to share?
  3. Inclusivity, Accessibility, and Digital Pedagogy: COVID-19 has brought issues related to inclusivity and accessibility to the forefront. What barriers have you, colleagues, and/or students encountered and how have you resolved them? This is an opportunity to reflect on and share frameworks and best practices that have helped reduce pedagogical barriers through digital pedagogy approaches. What barriers remain?
  4. Digital Pedagogy and the Post-Truth Society: It is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate what is real and what is true. How can Digital Pedagogy help instructors and students to navigate issues related to digital literacy, data ethics, misinformation, and/or social media influences in a so-called ‘post-truth world’?.

 Formats
Presentations - 20-minute synchronous sessions presenting papers or presentations on projects, initiatives, case studies related to one of the conference streams, with time for Q&A.
Tool demos/workshops - 30 minutes demonstrations of innovative or new tools that you have integrated or are thinking of integrating into your pedagogical approach.
