Buddhism, Mindfulness, and Happiness:
A seminar with Dr. Saamdu Chetri
Wednesday, April 6, 2022 | 2:00 p.m.
Known around the world for his work on Bhutan's Gross National Happiness<https://sju.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=32b8faf3b62cb8f35a23e2996&id=b0cc6b9385&e=abc5d455c4> index, Dr. Saamdu Chetri<https://sju.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=32b8faf3b62cb8f35a23e2996&id=170db40fdd&e=abc5d455c4>, a Buddhist monk and internationally renowned scholar of mindfulness and happiness, will conduct a seminar on mindfulness and happiness.
Instead of focusing on growing its Gross Domestic Product, Bhutan has emphasized Gross National Happiness<https://sju.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=32b8faf3b62cb8f35a23e2996&id=131cfe3263&e=abc5d455c4>, understanding that not all economic activity promotes happiness. For example, gun and tobacco sales my increase GDP but negatively affect happiness. Instead it focuses on local, culturally-rich initiatives that have had an enormous impact on development.
Originally form Bhutan (his official bio is here<https://sju.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=32b8faf3b62cb8f35a23e2996&id=42008b00c6&e=abc5d455c4>, but his extraordinary life story is better told in this BBC article<https://sju.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=32b8faf3b62cb8f35a23e2996&id=b9c3aaff97&e=abc5d455c4>), Dr. Chetri is currently a visiting professor at the Rekhi Center of Excellence for Science of Happiness at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur<https://sju.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=32b8faf3b62cb8f35a23e2996&id=4aac19faaa&e=abc5d455c4>.
