People of Arts!

A reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 2 to 4pm, the UW Library is hosting an online workshop on Zotero for all who are interested. You'll find the original announcement with all the details below.

And if you're wondering why it's even called Zotero, according to the Zotero website it's "loosely based on the Albanian (yes, Albanian) word zotëroj, meaning to acquire, to master, as in learning. If you are interested in more info see linguist Mark Dingemanse's post on The Etymology of Zotero<http://ideophone.org/zotero-etymology/>."

Hope to see you there! Bring your grad students!
Skid

Hi ho good people!

Our cherished UW Library has recently purchased institutional storage with Zotero, an open source reference management software program. I've invited the Library's Zotero experts to put on an online workshop to help faculty and students learn about how to use Zotero or, if you're already a Zoterian, how to make even better use of this wonderful resource.

This hands-on workshop will be geared towards academics in the language and literature fields, but colleagues and students from other fields will get something out of it as well. (If you would prefer a customized session for your area or research group, please contact UW's Zotero librarians: zotero at library.uwaterloo.ca<mailto:zotero at library.uwaterloo.ca>. They have done this in the past and are planning on offering more sessions.)

When: Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 2 to 4pm (the workshop might not take that long, but we're budgeting time for questions and discussion)

Where: Microsoft Teams - here's the link:
Click here to join the meeting<https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_MmYwYjhlOTYtNDUwZS00OWRkLWFhYzYtNjdmN2M1MjRkNThj%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%22723a5a87-f39a-4a22-9247-3fc240c01396%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%22b8196a78-621c-4f23-8b7d-6f12b96bdf2d%22%7d>

If you're planning on participating, the facilitators ask that you do two things prior to the workshop:

  * create your free account at Zotero<https://www.zotero.org/>. Be sure to use your uwaterloo email account so that you can take advantage of the unlimited free storage
  * download the Zotero browser connector (you'll find browser connectors and plug-ins for programs like Microsoft Word on the Zotero download page<https://www.zotero.org/download/>)

The Library has put together a set-up guide for Zotero as well:

https://subjectguides.uwaterloo.ca/zotero

If you'd like to ask the Zotero librarians a question or propose some questions or topics for the workshop, feel free to email them at zotero at library.uwaterloo.ca<mailto:zotero at library.uwaterloo.ca>.

Please do attend if you're interested. And if you know of anyone in your corner of Arts who doesn't receive ArtsAnnounce but may wish to attend - i.e. grad students! - please pass this message along to them.

Carry on,

Skid
