Following their well-received opening reception, join us for a personal tour by the collaborative duo of Camal Pirbhai and Camille Turner of their current exhibition unearth, featuring photo-based artworks House of Bâby and Rocks.

Working collectively, Camal & Camille bring together their wide range of experiences and skills to create artworks in a variety of media that emerge from their shared concerns such as: unsilencing histories, confronting social myths, and engaging with the mysteries of deep time. Camal & Camille are represented by Central Art Garage, Ottawa. Camal & Camille website<https://www.camalandcamille.com/>

Camal Pirbhai was raised in Switzerland and trained as a couturier in soft furnishings in the UK. Drawing from his expertise fabricating large-scale textile projects, hand-sewn curtains and intricate embellishments, Camal has evolved a multidisciplinary artistic practice exploring a wide array of materials, media and processes such as: sculpture, fibre, installation, painting, performance and media art. His conceptually glamorous works have been shown in museums including the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Textile Museum of Canada, and the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art. Camille Turner is an artist/scholar whose work combines Afrofuturism and historical research. Her most recent explorations confront the entanglement of what is now Canada in the transatlantic trade in Africans. She puts into practice Afronautics, a methodological frame she developed to approach colonial archives from the point of view of a liberated future. She recently completed a PhD at York University’s Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change and is currently a Provost’s postdoctoral fellow at University of Toronto’s Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design. Turner is the recipient of the 2022 Artist Prize by the Toronto Biennial of Art. Her artworks are in numerous collections including: National Gallery of Canada, Art Museum at University of Toronto, Art Gallery of Hamilton, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Canada Council Art Bank, Museum London, The Wedge Collection, and The Rooms. Please join us! Event is free and open to the public.
