Hello, music lovers! Mark your calendars for this latest line up of end of term concerts and ensembles.

Balinese Percussion Ensemble Concert<https://uwaterloo.ca/music/events/balinese-percussion-ensemble-concert-fall-2024>
Friday, November 22 at 7:30pm
Knox Presbyterian, 50 Erb Street West, Waterloo. Free admission.
Gamelan ensembles are primarily percussive instruments made of bronze and bamboo but may include drums, bells, flutes, strings, and voice. An oral tradition taught and learned collectively; repertoire is transmitted in a group setting without the use of sheet music. This concert will feature both the UWaterloo student Gamelan and the Grebel Community Gamelan Warga Santi. The Gamelan is directed by Balinese artist I Dewa Made Suparta.

Knox Presbyterian Church, 50 Erb St. West Waterloo. Free Admission.
Directed by well-known local musician Daniel Warren, the orchestra will play the following pieces:

Tchaikovsky, Romeo and Juliet overture

Verdi, Overture to Nabucco

Smetana, the Moldau

Reinecke, Concerto for Flute
*
Brahms, Academic Festival Overture
The Academic Festival Overture was played at the very first concert in the Humanities Theatre 20 years ago. Special guest soloist Laurel Swinden will join the orchestra for Reinecke’s flute concerto.

St. John the Evangelist Church, 22 Water Street, Kitchener. $5 students/$10 general
Tickets available at the door.
The feature piece is a four-movement work by award winning Canadian composer Katarina Gimon called Elements. The movements are appropriately entitled Earth, Air, Fire and Water. There will also be works by Palestrina, Saint-Saens and Sydney Guillaume. This 30-voice choir is directed by Mark Vuorinen.
The Heart’s Garden: University Choir<https://uwaterloo.ca/music/events/hearts-garden-university-choir-fall-2024-concert>
Saturday, Saturday November 30 at 7:30 pm
First United Church, 16 William St. Waterloo. $5 students/$10 general, tickets available at the door.
Directed by Liska Jetchick and accompanied by Nicole Simone, this talented group of students, staff, and faculty from UWaterloo will perform a wide range of choral pieces. The University Choir will explore various themes central to the human condition through the music of Archadelt, Handel, and Tin, while featuring world premieres by composers Matthew Emery and Katy Dosman.

Great Hall (room 1111) at Conrad Grebel University College, 140 Westmount Rd North, Waterloo. Free Admission.
A jazz concert encompassing compositions influenced by the traditions and talents of America, Canada, Cuba, with a Christmas twist thrown in just for fun! Composer featured this term include Neil Hefti, Lennie Niehaus, Gordon Goodwin, Nick Lane and Chris Sharp. The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Michael Wood.
