A Special Message from the WCGS Director:
I’d like to take a moment to encourage your attendance, in-person or online, at the upcoming event, The Changing German Political Landscape. This has been organized by UW history professor Gary Bruce and DAAD Toronto senior manager John Paul Kleiner, and it promises to help all of us gain some insight into the shifting preferences of the German electorate. The state elections in Germany, unlike Canada, often serve as a bellwether for national elections, which are scheduled for September 28, 2025. Europe and Germany are wrestling with issues like migration and wars in eastern Europe and the Middle East, and the voters are registering their concerns at the ballot box. The panelists who have been invited to speak on Nov. 7 all have perspectives grounded in years of research and study, and I’m sure we will all learn something from them.

Sincerely,
James M. Skidmore
Director, Waterloo Centre for German Studies<wcgs.ca>
