There are three opportunities for studying traditional noh and kyogen
theatre this summer. These are:
1). Kyoto Performance Institute/Traditional Theatre Training
>A one-week orientation will be followed by daily training with traditional
>masters, culminating in a costumed recital. Costs are =A5350,000 including

2). Portland State University School of Extended Studies will sponsor
T.T.T. in Residence as part of the Portland International Performance
=46estival. Kyogen master Akira Shigeyama and his son Doji will teach
traditional kyogen, and lead an experimental workshop using texts by Grimm
and Beckett. Available for 8 college credits or a 0--credit option, it
will consist of:

3). Noh music and dance in Bloomsburg, PA!
*Richard Emmert, Tokyo-based ethnomusicologist and noh expert, will offer a
three week course in Noh Music and Dance at the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble
in Pennsylvania, July 20-August 10. Composer of numerous "English noh,"
student of noh instruments, song, and dance for two decades, and frequent
teacher abroad, Emmert brings a unique power as both performer and scholar.
Cost is $775, including tuition and housing. For further information,
