CALL FOR PAPERS: ATHE 96 (Aug.7-10 in NYC)
Theatre and Social Change
TASC promotes the practice and study of socially critical and
community-based performance forms and techniques, encourages analysis of
performance's dynamic relationship with society, and serves as a network
for people with these concerns.
For ATHE 96, TASC welcomes panel and single paper proposals. Please feel
free to experiment with alternative panel formats, workshops, and
performance. Some suggestions for topics generated at brainstorming
sessions in San Francisco include:
1) Postering session spotlighting case studies of community-based theatre
work. Papers would be available online before the conference.
2) Interrogation of the process used for theatre and social change.
3) International grassroots theatre work to solve problems like literacy,
birth control, etc.
4) Community-based theatre work with children with special needs
5) Political drama
6) Theatre and the environment
7) Crossing disciplines-- theatre practitioners and sociologists,
psychologists, etc.
Since ATHE 96 will be a joint conference with AATE (American Alliance for
Theatre Educators), it offers great opportunities for collaboration on
panels and workshops and encourages new approaches to presenting
research, cutting edge pedagogies, and new methodologies and ideas.
Please send proposals to Susan Haedicke, Department of English, The
George Washington University, Washington D.C. 20052. If you have any
questions, call me at (202) 994-6180, FAX (202) 994-7915 or email:
shaedick at gwis2.circ.gwu.edu
The deadline for proposals is October 15, 1995. The proposal form will
arrive in the September issue of ATHENews.
