Studio Z, a nonprofit arts organization based in Chicago, is searching for
new plays and playwrights to work with in two programs for its 1996/1997
season: The Playwright In Electronic Residence and The International
Voices Festival.
The Playwright in Electronic Residence Program or PIER links talented new
playwrights with a host university or theatre to develop a new play using
the Internet. Studio Z is now selecting one PIER site to make its final
test of this exciting new program (September/October 1996). The developed
play will be workshopped with the host institution and lead to a final
performance which could be a simple staged reading or a fully realized
production. More detailed information about the fall PIER test site will
be available once all arrangements are made with the host university.
The International Voices Festival is a unique reading series of three new
international plays workshopped through Studio Z, leading to performances
in Chicago in May 1997.
Studio Z is searching for all types of plays from all genres. The
key factor is finding playwrights excited by the prospect of collaborating
through the new medium of the Internet. Email will be used for the
exchange in addition to the ATHEMOO (a cyberlocation for synchronous
communication) and possibly, video-teleconferencing. NOTE: we are especially
looking for playwrights from outside the United States.
If interested, please send your play synopses to Studio Z (brygar at mcs.com)
along with the following information:
number of characters?
one-act or full length?
produced or unproduced?
workshop history (if any)?
Also, please include a brief bio. All Studio Z programs are
process-oriented so the playwright must be available at least 2x per week to
exchange notes/comments on the play. Agreements/contracts will be made
available to all playrights to insure the integrity of the process.
Finally, please answer the following questions when submitting your synopses:
1. When did you last work on your play (rewrites, readings, etc...)?
2. Do you have plans for your play (future productions, readings, etc...)?
We look forward to hearing from you!
