CALLS FOR PAPERS
The International Brecht Society (IBS), an affiliate organization
of the Modern Language Society (MLA), is sponsoring two panels at
the next MLA conference in Washington D.C., December 27-30, 1996:
I. Brecht in Translation
Seeking proposals for a workshop session on translating
Brecht, on available Brecht translations, on difficulties of
teaching Brecht in translation, etc. The workshop format
encourages hands-on analysis/presentation of short texts or
excerpts (ca 20 minutes each).

II. Brecht and Governments
On the occasion of the MLA's meeting in the nation's capitol,
contributions are sought about Brecht's relations to various
governments and states (Kaiserreich, Weimar Republic, Third
Reich, GDR, exile in Scandinavia and the USA). Topics may
consider Brecht's views on or experiences with governments,
official state policies affecting stage productions,
representations of nation and state in Brecht's texts, etc.
