                              POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
 
                                Director-Teacher
                           Department of Theatre Arts
 
 
Description:  Temporary Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre
Arts.  Direct University Theatre productions, teach the beginning and
advanced directing sequence and supervise the lab theatre program.  Other
course responsibilities may include acting, voice, audition techniques,
or introduction to theatre, depending upon qualifications.  Work with
recruiting, retention and advising programs for students.  Position to
begin August, 1996.
 
Qualifications:  MFA required.  Skills in teaching beginning and
advanced directing, as well as a specialty area (e.g., auditioning,
period styles, voice, or movement) required.  Directing experience in a
variety of styles and genres at both the undergraduate and professional
level highly desirable.
 
The University Theatre and the Community:  Bradley University Theatre presents a
season of well attended plays and musicals in its 280-seat trust theatre
and 70-seat experimental lab theatre.  A faculty of  six plus staff
costumer and music director is complemented by visiting directors,
teachers, and artists supported by a generous endowment.  The program
currently consists of 60 majors and 15 minors.  Bradley University is a
comprehensive, medium-sized, private, non-denominational institution
enrolling 6,000 students.  Located midway between Chicago and St. Louis,
the Peoria metropolitan area of 350,000 has established
semi-professional and community theatre as well as Civic Ballet, Opera,
and Symphony Orchestra.
