I have read up on the overall style but now I am looking for texts that give specific examples or illustrations of the universal facial expressions and gestures that the actors employed. Can anybody out there suggest texts that give such examples?

This is not my area of study and I always get confused just which years
make up any given century (i.e. what is the range of yrs for the 18th
C.?) but if you haven't found this already, you might check:
Roach, Joseph R. _The Player's Passion: Studies in the Science
of Acting_. Ann Arbor: U of Michigan P, 1993. (orig. date 1985)
There are several illustrations of just such gestures and facial
expression, for example, figs. 9, 11, 18. Roach cites sources for his
illustrations.
Anyway, this might be a start. Cheers, Kathy.
