Andreas Heller:
According to the Playwrights Union of Canada Who's Who, Joan MacLeod is a
Vancouver-based playwright, poet, librettist, actor, and "failed novelist"
who spent seven seasons with Tarragon Theatre in Toronto. Toronto,
Mississippi premiered at the Tarragon Theatre in 1987 with Andy McKim
directing. That play is available through PUC (e-mail
cdplays at interlog.com). The description of it in their catalogue is as
follows:
Jhana, a mentally-handicapped teenager, lives with her mother and a
cheerfully morose poet. Jhana's estranged father - a professional Elvis
impersonator - arrives unexpectedly. What follows is an exploration of
fragmented identities and fractured understandings. Drama, 2 acts, 2m/2f
