Dear List Members;
I am working on a research project initiated by the Ministry of Heritage
in Ottawa in collaboration with Parks Canada for the Historical Sites and
Momuments Board. The Board commemorates nationally significant events,
sites and individuals in order to celebrate important contributions to
Canadian social, historical and cultural life. Past designations have,
for example, included Emily Carr (her house is preserved) and Robert
Service.
The Board has recently identified Literature and Drama as an area that
needs to be developped in terms of commemoration. This is NOT a request
for suggestions re: individuals you would like to see commemorated.
Rather, we have identified a number of sub-fields, and we are trying to
identify experts/knowledgeable people in these sub-fields. I WOULD
appreciate any suggestions you would have for contact people (don't be shy
about suggesting yourself). I would need a phone # & address so that I
could get in contact with the suggested person. THe sub-fields we have
identified are:
1) writers and their craft
-novelists
-poets
-short story
-drama
-children's literature
2) media and literature
-birth and developpement of book reviews in media
-media institutions with a mandate to promote Canadian lit
-literature published as serials
3) education and Canadian literature
-significant teachers of Canadian literature
-schools of literary creation
-developpement of the field of Canadian literature studies
-significant scholars
-scholarly journals
4) production and stewardship
-publishers devoted to promotion of Canadian letters
-public library system in Canada
-special collections devoted to Can Lit
-bookstores with a mandate for the promotion of Can Lit
5) theatre
-theatre troupes having made a significant contribution to
the developpement of theatre in Canada
-individuals (actors, producers) having made a significant
contribution
-theatres with national significance
-schools, researchers, educators
6) visual arts
-illustrators (especially for Children's literature)
-artists who produce bodies of written work deemed to be
of literary value
7) oral traditions
-story tellers who have had an impact on Canadian letters
-oral tales
-groups whose oral traditions have impacted Canadian
literature
I hope this gives you an idea of the type of information we are looking
for. All suggestions are welcome. Please answer to me personally.
If you know of other groups where Canadian literature is discussed, please
do not hesitate to cross-post, with the mention that they should answer to
me at: c2164 at er.uqam.ca
Thank you for your help.
