To This List..
I am a professor in the French Department of Carleton University and there
is no doubt that is move is disastrous, not only to literary studies but
to the very notion of what a University is supposed to be.
By the way, it seems that once these colleagues are declared redundant, it
is very unlikely they will be hired back because the undergraduate and
graduate programmes in Italian, Spanish, German and comparative literature
will be gone..so where will they teach?
The Literary studies (which involve culture, history and other fields
related to literature other that English and French) are gone. This
says much for the multicultural focus of the learning institutions in the
capital of the country.
Carleton is no longer a very nice place to be.
