Dear Kathy Chung,

You had enquired aboput the Vancouver-based Legacies Project. It's  "a
collaboration of cultural and educational institutions and a retropesctive
journey into twentieth century polititcs ans society protrayed through the
arts. The goal of the Legacies Project is to stimulate public reflection,
discussion and debate about experiences of the century and their lessons
for the next-with particular reference to British Columbia."

The project involves arts and public affairs programs to be presented
between 1998 and 2001. Most recently, Legacies presented, here in
Vancouver, a series of lectures: Modris Ecksteins (Toronto): Culture and
Catastrophe; Arne Ness (Norway) The Environmental Effects of Industrial
Civilization and the Legacy of the Ecology Movement; and Susan Griffin
(Berkley) Private Lives and Public Meaning.

As part of the theatrical run of "The terrible but incomplete journals of
John D.", we are conducting a public information session for artists, arts
organizations at Performance Works (Granville Island), Friday June 12, 4-6
pm. All interested are invited.

Core members of the project include: Michel Bisson and myself (Rumble
Productions); Richard Pinet (Basic Research/Basic Inquiry); Roman
Onufrijchuk (Open Learning Agency), Jerald Zaslove (Institute for the
Humanities and Continuing Studies, Simon Fraser University); Yosef Wosk
(Continuing Studies, Simon Fraser University); Nichola Hall (Continuing
Studies, University of British Columbia); Judith Mastai (Vancouver Art
Forum); Olivia Crastor (Vancouver Public Library); Michael Clague; Larry
Green and Madeleine Butschler.

I hope this gives a sense of the intention and scope of the project.
