1998 Congress of the Social Sciences and Humanities
27 May — 6 June
University of Ottawa

1998 represents the inaugural year of the new Congress of the Social
Sciences and Humanities, a re-casting of the former Learned Societies
Conference which has been held annually in Canada since the 1930s.  By
adding innovations to the best features of the traditional annual gatherings
of scholarly associations, the Humanities and Social Sciences Federation of
Canada is seeking to build a Congress that will be a truly significant event
for both the research community and all those who can benefit from our findings.

The Federation is now circulating information regarding the Congress
(including the schedule of meetings, a listing of special events, and
registration and accommodation information) and invites your participation.
In addition to the activities of the 97 participating scholarly
associations, we invite you to participate in special events such as the
Colloquia on Health, on Migration/Immigration, and on the Public Good, as
well as the International Humanities Forum. This information has also been
posted on the Federation web site <http://www.hssfc.ca> (see CONGRESS section). 

Deadline for early registration is March 31. Registration is accepted by
mail, fax, or electronically through our secure server.

_IMPORTANT ERRATA_:	

The Printed Registration Guide contains several errors:

	1.  The proper Convention Number to quote with Air Canada is _CV981127_. 
	2.  The telephone number for information on University of Ottawa residences
should be (613) 562-5771.
	3.  Costs for double rooms in residence is $5 higher than listed (to
include full breakfast for both guests). 
	4.  Registration fees for the Canadian Association of Geographers (society
#150) should include non-member fees of $140 (early) and $165 (late).

1998 marque l'année inaugurale du nouveau Congrès des sciences sociales et
humaines, nouvelle version du Congrès des sociétés savantes qui s'est tenu
annuellement au Canada depuis 1930.  Grâce à des innovations s'ajoutant aux
meilleurs éléments des assemblées annuelles traditionnelles des sociétés
savantes, la Fédération canadienne des sciences humaines et sociales tente
d'organiser un congrès qui soit vraiment marquant, tant pour la collectivité
des chercheurs que pour ceux qui profitent de leurs recherches.

La Fédération fait présentement circuler des renseignements sur le Congrès
(y compris le calendrier des rencontres, la liste des événements spéciaux et
de l'information sur l'inscription et le logement) et vous invite instamment
à y participer.  Outre les activités des 97 sociétés savantes participantes,
nous vous convions aux événements spéciaux, tels que les colloques sur la
santé, la migration/immigration et le bien public ainsi que le forum

Des erreurs se sont glissées dans le Guide d'inscription :

	1) Le code du Congrès à citer auprès d'Air Canada est le _CV981127_.
	2) Le numéro de téléphone pour obtenir des renseignements su l'hébergement
en résidence à l'Université d'Ottawa est (613) 562-5771
	3) Il faudrait ajouter 5$ au montant indiqué pour le coût d'une chambre
double en résidence (afin d'inclure le petit-déjeuner pour les deux invités. 
	4) Les frais d'inscriptions pour l'Association canadienne des géographes
(Association no 150) devraient comprendre des frais pour les non-membres,
soit 140 $ (inscription anticipée) et 165 $ (inscription régulière).
