hi candramians:

just to let everyone know, the fifth and final "regional" volume in the
world encyclopedia of contemporary theatre series -- a volume dedicated
to theatre in the arab world -- will be launched in meiningen, germany
may 8. the german actor karl-maria brandauer will host the event which
will feature speakers from canada (me), europe and the arab world among
others and a special display-performance utilizing the famous 19th
century meiningen backdrops.

the launch will also include a 2-day colloquium on interculturality and
the future of the theatre with keynote addresses by wole soyinka and
richard schechner. i am chair of the events generally and will introduce
the soyinka session. martin banham (editor of the cambrdige guide to
theatre) will be the respondant. rolf rohmer, former intendant of the
deutsches theatre, will introduce schechner and erika fischer-lichte
(pres of firt) will respond. there will also be a theatre book fair and
a visit to a 17th century theatre in eisenach. if anyone is in germany
please feel free to attend.
the arab volume covers 21 arab nations. the asia volume was published
last fall. routledge is publisher.

still to come in the series is a world theatre bibliography 1945 to
date. that's going through final stages june and july. if anyone has
anything to suggest or wants to help, please let me know.

looking forward to saying hello to some of you at the launch of anton
wagner's book on canadian theatre criticsm in lennoxville june 2-4.

and hoping to get back to things canadian when this mad world
encyclopedia project finally wraps up next year.

world-war german theatre this fall. he is willing to give some guest
lectures if anyone is interested. you can reach him through me. we also
have eric bentley coming in to do an evening of bentley and brecht in
late september, early october. he is also willing to do the show
