Colleagues --
If you are planning on attending the ACTR/ARTC conference at the
Congress of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Alberta in
May/June 2000, and if you are looking for good accommodation, I suggest
that you consider the Varscona Hotel. This is not an ad, or a paid
plug. I was recently very impressed by the amenities during a guided
tour of the hotel. The hotel accommodation within walking distance of
the UofA is limited and the Varscona, located on Whyte Ave near good
restaurants, theatres, coffee shops is also close to the campus. In the
same building are a good Italian restaurant and an Irish pub. What more
could you ask of a prairie Canadian city? A breakfast and an evening
wine tasting are included in the conference rate of $109, and the rooms
can easily accommodate two. Access to fax and copy service, voice mail
and internet is also provided, plus meeting rooms and exercise room.
There is a shuttle from the airport.
The Congress has blocked-booked rooms for the conference, but these will
go fast as there are only 89 rooms in this "boutique" hotel. The web
site is: varscona.com

Anne Nothof
