my name is adrienne and i'm a student at sfu. currently i am one of three
artistic directors of black box theatre, a student run theatre company. we
generate our own material and perform and direct and and and
i'm looking to challenge the students by creating a series of two shows
that examine the nature of english text in western theatre. the first
challenge will be to create theatre that does not use text as its primary
means of communication between scene partners or between the performers
and the audience. i have already stumbled upon some of the work of hrant
alianak and was wondering if anyone had and other sources for plays or
scenarios that don't use english text?
the second in this series will challenge the students to create work that
makes language an object. like in stoppard's DOGG'S HAMLET, student's will
be encouraged to use english in ways other than day-to-day uses and to
make concious decisions to limit the number or types of words they can
use. again, does anyone know any sources for this kind of work?
i appreciate any responses or comments on these ideas. i can keep you
posted as to how they turn out.
finally, i'm sort of crashing this list. how do i get on? my email address
is adriennw at sfu.ca
