It's Just a List

Yes! Ten Best Lists are arbitrary and exclusive.
Yes! Ten Best Lists give the casual reader the impression that the subjective
opinions of the listers are objective truths.
Yes! They lead to the ill informed consuming meaningless factoids out of
context.
However: As an attempt to inform a casual public that is largely ignorant of
it's own indigenous theatre, it's a fine and useful tool. Perhaps if some web
surfer stumbles upon a list of Ten Favourite Canadian Plays, he or she might be
inspired to check one or two of them out of the library and read them or (GASP!)
attend a production of one or two of them.
Whatever philosophical objections one may hold against the shallow world of the
All Powerful Top Forty, surely the world won't crumble if one or two of you -
who dedicate so much time and effort to Canadian Theatre- post a list of some of
the plays that moved you the most, or you consider important. Everybody has
favourites. Why not share them? Maybe some one might be interested and go buy a
ticket to something.
