UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH

The School of Literatures and Performance Studies in English at the
University of Guelph invites applications for two tenure-track
positions at the Assistant Professor level, to take effect August 1,
2000. The school seeks candidates with expertise in any area of
literary and performance studies in English, but has particular
curricular needs (postcolonial theory and literatures; queer theory
and literatures; film studies/popular culture; children's literatures;
nineteenth-century and modernist studies) across a range of
postcolonial, settler, and national contexts.
The school has strong B.A. and M.A. programs in both English and
Drama and is currently proposing a Ph.D. jointly with Wilfrid Laurier
University. Flexibility of teaching interests is essential; our
curricula are designed to cross fixed disciplinary boundaries by
combining broad reading, methodological self-consciousness, and
material practice. We have particular commitment to the Canadian,
postcolonial, and early modern areas, and to the study of gender,
race, and sexuality, as well as significant links with Cultural
Studies, Scottish Studies and Women's Studies units in the university.
We are also strongly committed to the interface of research,
teaching, and service.
Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, writing sample of 20-25
pages, graduate transcripts, and arrange for the forwarding of three
letters of reference to: Drs. Christine Bold and Harry Lane,
Codirectors, School of Literatures and Performance Studies in English,
University of Guelph, Guelph, ON N1G 2W1 (Fax 519-766-0844). Deadline
for applications: 24 December 1999. Subject to final budgetary
approval.
In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, this
advertisement is directed to Canadian citizens and permanent
residents.
The University of Guelph is committed to an employment equity
program which includes special measures to achieve diversity among its
faculty and staff. We therefore particularly encourage applications
from qualified Aboriginal Canadians, persons with disabilities,
members of visible minorities, and women.
