There is an interesting article, "Chapters Online to sell digital e-books," in the Report on Business section, of today's Globe and Mail, page B3.

The article indicates that Chapters Online "plans to start selling digital e-books within two months--becoming the first Canadian retailer to allow customers to download entire books from the Internet."

Chaptes first project will be converting 172 Coles Notes student guides into e-books.
Copyright and intellectual rights of publishers and authors will be protected in the digital books.

The article concludes that "Industry observes say e-books have the potential to turn the book industry on its ear by making books much more accessible--and cheaper to deliver to consumers. Digital books can cut production costs considerably by virtually eliminating heavy printng, paper, distribution, warehousing and shipping expenses."
